Whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and
that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6
Enoch was just seven generations from Adam, father of Methuselah
and great-grandfather of Noah. He was so close to the Lord,
Genesis and Hebrews proclaim, that God just took him.
What was it about Enoch? Genesis says he walked with the Lord 300
years. Hebrews says he was commended as one who pleased God. Did
his life overlap Adam’s? Did he hear first-hand accounts of
communing with the Lord before sin’s corrupting influence?
Certainly he met the criteria in today’s verse – he believed that
God exists. And more than just believing, he personally knew the
Lord of the universe, and he received his heavenly reward without
experiencing death.
